If Only You Could See

I know that sometimes you will see only darkness
when you wanted to see light;
I know that trials may seem to be the hardest
when you’re trying to do right.
If only you could see the heavenly glory
 lighting up each stormy cloud
and breaking through the gloom in greatest victory
—“Be still, and know that I am God.”

I know that fiercest storms around you will gather
 when you wanted peace and rest
Your hopes and plans for life are scattered,
which to you seemed all the best.
If only you could see the rainbow there in heav’n,
 shining bright for you above.
It is the unfailing promise I have given—
symbol of My endless love.

I know here you will be faced with griefs and losses
when you “can’t take any more;”
Your eyes see only the thorns and painful crosses
between you and heaven’s door.
If only you could see the glorious splendor
of the crown awaiting you
And angels singing. “My struggling child, surrender,
 In my arms, I’ll carry you.

I know, my child, one day your eyes will be opened
 to what heaven holds in store;
You will see fulfilled the promises I’ve spoken,
 as you never saw before.
One day you will see how all things worked together
 for your own eternal good,
How the trials drew you to Me, now forever,
 as nothing else ever could.

(Jennita Schmidt, Feb. 2010)

“All that has perplexed us in the providences of God will in the world to come be made plain. The things hard to be understood will then find explanation. The mysteries of grace will unfold before us. Where our finite minds discovered only confusion and broken promises, we shall see the most perfect and beautiful harmony. We shall know that infinite love ordered the experiences that seemed most trying.” {9T 286.2}
